Local Area Forums
The Yorkshire Coast Community Strategy is the "Grand Plan" for our area. How can you help todevelop the strategy as well as get involved in projects and take advantage of funding oportunities and pieces of work arrising from the Strategy?
The North Yorkshire Coast Community Strategy aims to promote and improve economic, social and environmental well-being. The Local Area Forums are the community link into the Strategy.
Coast and Moors Voluntary Action can help small voluntary organisations and community groups to get involved and have their say. You can attend the Forums, get involved in your Support Group or just get more information.
Local Area Forums are a community initiative. People can tell Organisations working as partners of Scarborough Borough Council and the Borough Council itself, what they see as the problems and possible solutions where they live.
Local people have decided how their Forum will work and what is top of the agenda where they live. Each Forum has a Support Group. The chair of this group has voting rights at the Local Strategic Partnership, which plans and develops the North Yorkshire Coast Community Strategy.
Subjects for discussion at the Forums have been chosen by support groups because they were suggested by people who attend Forums or because an issue has come up which affect the area. We like to make sure the Forums are responsive to topics which are coming up as a result of national and local initiatives.
Some issues have come up at every Forum. An example of this is the low level of funding for statutory youth services accross the Borough. Concern about the level of service has been highlighted in all Forum areas. The Chairs of all four Forums have been to Area Committee and voiced this cross-borough issue with a view to improving provision.

Dates, venues and subjects of future Forums are widely publicised locally. They are held about every three months, but are flexible to enable discussion and planning on issues as they arise locally.
